Margaret Joan "Joanie" Allen, 82, of Tulsa, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, after living a full and wonderful life.
Joanie was born January 1, 1936, in Tulsa, OK, to the late Elizabeth and John Byers. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Elizabeth Sigler, Susie Greenwood, and John Byers, and her son, Brian Allen. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Frederick Brian "Freddy" Allen; children, Linda Jones and husband, Chris of Owasso, OK, Jean Ehmke and husband, Brent of Raleigh, NC; sister, Mary Jane Arrington of Wichita, TX; grandchildren, Shanon Allen, Curtis Allen, Andrew Allen, Todd Jones, Jerra Sibray, Kari Aube, Kevin Marshall, Andrew Ehmke, and Rebecca Ehmke.Soon after graduating from Central High School, Joanie married her sweetheart Freddy.
They started their family and she was a homemaker and mother. In the early 1960's she decided to go to beauty school and opened her own salon at her home which she ran while still handling three active children. Joanie was also a talented artist who enjoyed square dancing. She combined those two things when she started another business called Circle Left that provided beautiful hand painted square dance clothing and accessories. She later developed her skills in china painting creating lovely works and winning many blue ribbons. She also served as the President of the Tulsa China Painters Club, President of Oil Capital China Painters Club of Tulsa, and President of Oklahoma World Organization of China Painters, Inc. from 2006-2007 and only became inactive in OKWOCP due to illness. Joanie loved to go on road trips with Fred and was always there for her family.
Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 10:00 AM at Cremation Society of Oklahoma, 2103 East 3rd Street, Tulsa, OK 74104

Hello, I rearranged the Special Exhibit at the museum today and attached new tags. Below are two photos and the list of artists on display until the end of June. Artists can still add an artist statement. A half page narrow would probably best fit the space between most paintings.
You are encouraged to use the photos to post on Facebook. Remember the Open House is this Wed Mar 21 from 6pm to 8pm with tours at 6:30, 7, and 7:30 pm. Thanks to those who shared their art for this and the previous exhibits. Susan Schmidt

Exhibit wall in Museum
Invitation to Hang Your Art
Porcelain Art Museum’s Special Exhibition Area
By Museum Promotions Chair Susan Schmidt
The Porcelain Art Museum launched
a new special exhibition display area in
early 2018. It will feature creations by porcelain and other media artists in
order to call greater attention to the museum by encouraging the artists’
friends and family to see their work.
Currently WOCP members and
past members including Sharan Amend, Thelma Ingram, Fillis Jackson, Anita Kantowski,
Phyllis Knighton, Deby Laverantz, Nancy Lepak, Joan Newman, Ruthanne Reitz,
Susan Schmidt, Sharon Schultz, Barbara Ramsey Snow, Bernetta Stewart, Ann
Truscott, Della Truel, Shirley Weston, and Paula White have their creations on
display through June. July thru
September will feature a variety of mediums by Mid-Del Art Guild members.
This special exhibition
area offers a great opportunity for artists, especially those not plugged into
other organizational venues to have a place besides the state fairs to exhibit
their work. The special exhibition space
is configured in a “U” shape with walls on the west and east sides requiring
framed pieces with wire to hang from hooks (hooks are provided). The three cabinets on the north side will
accommodate 3-dementional pieces and tiles on stands. The cabinets are about 30 inches wide, 9
inches deep and have about 6 shelves.
The east wall has a hanging space about 4 foot high by 15 foot wide. About 25 small paintings can hang on the east
wall. At this time the museum will not
sell artists work. There are two 8.5 by
11 inch plastic display hangers where the organization, or artist(s) can
provide their name, background information, and contact info for potential
buyers with wording such as “Persons interested in purchasing art should
contact the artist directly.”
Out-of-state artists are
welcome if they have a way to deliver, set-up, and take-down their pieces. Set-up and take-down should be scheduled
during regular museum hours. Typically exhibits
will hang for two months. To accommodate
a larger number of artists, I am scheduling three areas separately. Clubs and individuals may reserve space.
Among the planned exhibits
include fair winners. Best of show,
first and second place ribbon winners from the Oklahoma City and Tulsa fairs
will be displayed in October & November for OKC and December & January
for Tulsa. Be sure to give your winning
pieces with ribbons to Fillis Jackson (OKC) and Marilyn Miller (Tulsa) for
To add to the buzz and
build camaraderie among artists and patrons, we hope to have an open
house/reception with snacks approximately every two months, generally on the
second Monday of the exhibit from 4 to 7 pm.
The exception is the Friday, July 13 reception 4 to 7 pm. The artists will generally provide the snacks,
set-up and clean-up. Finger food
usually; no wine. The public may be invited as well.
We all want to grow
WOCP. This is an opportunity for all to
participate and generate interest in both the museum and joining WOCP. Call me, Susan Schmidt, at home,
405-947-2061, to see what space is available and to sign up.
