Mildred started school in Freeport, Kansas, but after one year, her family moved to Anthony, Kansas, where she attended school until the 8th grade. Mildred and her sister, Irene, moved to Fairview, OK, to live with their aunt until she graduated from Fairview High School in 1939.

She was a member of several local clubs as well as the president of the World Organization of china Painters from 1981-1982 and treasurer from 1989-1990. Mildred traveled the world with her china painting friends, taking classes and painting more China than any one person would know what to do with.  On November 29, 2021 she became a member of the Centenarians of Oklahoma.
